How silicone surgery is done     Surgery Procedures and Techniques

The surgeon may ask you a number of related questions, which are proper for the implantation surgery.  You may spell out the purpose of having the implants. Give clear outlines to the doctor. Let him understand fully about your intentions, desires, and the reason for going under the surgeon’s scalpel.   The surgeon will examine you thoroughly and prescribe further details if necessary, so that your surgery turns out to be successful.

You may interact with your surgeon on the following lines to arrive at a decision regarding your implant:

  • implant surface: textured or smooth?

  • implant shape: tear drop or round?

  • implant volume and size?

  • implant incision site: areola, armpit, or belly button?

  • implant placement: below or above the muscle?

In case you are suffering from certain ailments, for instance, poor circulation, diabetes, lung or liver disease, or heart disease, carry a family history of blood clots. If you smoke, let your surgeon know. These are the points you need to discuss with your doctor for better results.

Steps Required To Be Taken Before Surgery

  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications or aspirin.

  • In case you are smoke-addicted, just quit smoking for a minimum of two weeks before the operation.

  • Procure a copy of the doctor’s protocol.
  • Make a point that some one remains with you and drives you to and from the operation.
  • Make sure that some body takes care of you for the first 24 – 72 hours of the post surgery period.
  • Before you move for the surgery, fill the application form.
  • Make a suitable environment at home. Since you will be having enough time on your hands while recuperating, pre-stock your room with magazines, books, pillows, stationery, journals, favorite CDs, remote control, and videos.
  • Install a bell, walkie-talkie or intercom system to call for any kind of help.
  • Keep food, that too frozen, well in advance in the refrigerator for at least two weeks.
  • Think of quick snacks such as applesauce, soup, protein shakes, frozen dinners, oatmeal, yogurt, juice, cottage cheese.
  • Increase the intake of proteins, as it is a vital nutritional requirement for the body in this condition. Consult with your doctor regarding low-sodium foods to decrease swelling.
  • Get icepacks ready to decrease post-operation swelling.
  • Get some laxatives prescribed, in case you need them.
  • Think of having a telephone with speakerphones near your bed.

Feeding

You can continue to feed with implants provided your milk ducts are not blocked during the implantation surgery. You may discuss the matter with your surgeon, so that he is extra careful in not damaging the milk ducts.  So far as the report on -feeding is concerned, recent reports have adequately highlighted these facts that -feeding with implants is in no way harmful.

implant shape

Round implants are quite common for the sake of implantation for reconstruction purposes. It works out to be cheaper than the tear drop shape implantation.  Besides, round implants do not get affected by rotation. Further, they do not need a textured surface.  More so, there are no short comings to round implants. This is the most common implant used for surgery of the .

Tear drop implants were promoted and developed to provide a more natural look. This is bit costlier than the round implants and need a textured exterior to stop rotation.  In case, the implants rotate they create embarrassing problems for the person concerned, as the gets distorted in shape. However, a recently concluded study indicated that round implants take the same shape as that of tear drop implant in a standing position. The study further projected that  in a lying down condition, the round   looks more natural  than  the tear drop  implant as it retains the  tear drop  form  and the round  implant remains more rounded.

Implant Surface

Textured implants are known to have an enhanced rippling risk, with, however, a decreased displacement risk. These implants are a bit costlier too.  The data projects that the textured implants contain a higher deflation rate and are firmer than the smooth implants.
Smooth implants exhibit a lower risk factor of rippling. Moreover, these implants are less firm than textured implants are.  In any case, if the implants happen to rotate, the implant practically will not affect the out look. Precisely because of this reason, smooth implants are used in ninety percent operations.

Implant Size and Volume

The size that is lesser than 350 ml have a lower risk of displacement, but may not be able to give the required shape and size to the . Bigger implants above 400 ml are accompanied by higher risk displacement. However, they provide for a bigger sized .

Therefore, selecting the required size has to be a well thought out decision. You will have to take a decision to determine the cup size. This will show how large your implant will be.  Carry along with you the required picture or size you wish to use in implantation. Take some time, consult your friends as to how you will look in a particular size, and then decide so that you can feel comfortable after the operation. The more comfortable you feel about your body, the better it will be for your self-confidence and self-esteem.  In case of any doubt or any kind of confusion, you can consult the doctor and discuss thoroughly about the whole structure and position of the implant.

Further, make a point that your surgeon overfills the implants. This procedure and technique reduces the risk of deflation, sloshing and rippling. There is hardly any disadvantage to overfilling. Implants are supposed to be overfilled, as the implant manufacturers usually suggest the surgeons to overfill.
