Lactation and silicone implants     Pregnancy And Silicone Implants

Effects of silicone implants on pregnancy, lactation and children are a subject of concern. It is a debatable topic for all concerned. The effects of implants have to be proved fully to the extent that these can be satisfactorily explained to the woman concerned. Pregnancy is a stage where every woman would like to be safe from all kinds of hassles. The very desire of every would-be parent is to have a healthy baby; and for that, it is important for the mother to remain healthy through out the period of pregnancy.  No would-be mother wishes to be ill at any stage of her pregnancy. The pregnancy stage, as you know, is one of the most important stages of a woman in her life. It has to be hassle free from all angles. The would-be mother does everything possible to ensure that her expected child remains in the best of health. In case it does not happen the way she plans, it can generate a lot of health problems for both the mother and child. At the moment, even if you forget that you should not bother about the condition of pregnancy and the impact of it, there lays a great danger of the child in the womb falling sick; and the betterment of the health of the child can in no way be jeopardized. A pregnancy fraught with risk to a child’s health has long-term negative impact on the well-being of the child. Their childhood can be full of health related problems for no fault of their own, which he may not be able to cope with.

The case of the -feeding is all the more important from an infant’s point of view. It is understood scientifically that milk is the best for the infant, and no mother should be advised to go against this at any cost.  If the mother herself suffers from illness in one or the other form, how can she ensure the smooth flow of milk, which is so essential for the immune system of the infant? There is always a strong suggestion for the mother to provide the best possible milk at least for six months to the infant. Further, there is considerable amount of interest as to how much is the possible risk of a mother carrying disease to the infant through -feeding. It may contribute in developing autoimmune disease in the child. There also is the need to find out to what extent the silicone implants inflict ailments on the womb or infant, and the mother. To nurse the infant, it is most important to ensure that the mother remains healthy. The point of concern here is what possible ill effects silicone implant can possibly have on the lactating mother and child. The pertinent question is, whether or not implants hamper the process of pregnancy and lactation. So far as the FDA guidelines go, they do not give any surety that the mother will not suffer health related problems after implant. Thus, it is the duty of the woman, who may plan to start a family at some future time, not to take any decision regarding implants in a hurry. It is important to understand the pros and cons and the possible risks involved before opting for implants.

Concern over Migration of the Silicone

There is a great deal of apprehension in panel’s circle regarding the migration of silicone inside the body through the silicone implants. If this really happens, it may create a host of problems for the would-be mother as well as to the infant. This may occur because of either trans-placental or trans-mammary delivery of silicone during either pregnancy or -feeding. In either case, this can be a big problem for both the parties. Hence, this is a worrisome situation. However, findings have so far not been able to prove that silicone through implants gets migrated at all. Since women are exposed to silicone in various other forms, there is no way to point the finger of suspicion at silicone-gel implants.

Potential Toxicity Experienced By a Neonate through Feeding

In a major problem reported, it has been noticed that there is no clear indication regarding the impact of toxicity on the mother’s status and that of the neonate during feeding.  Theoretically, there is quite a danger of potential toxicity to a neonate through -feeding. For mothers with implants, the thought of the peril of toxicity for her neonate can be quite disturbing. There is however, no evidence to suggest that the neonate is in danger of experiencing any toxicity through -feeding. There does not appear any kind of consensus regarding the post silicone implants complexities for the mother or newborn.  The FDA, though in the report more recently has expressed some concerns, but there is no specific guidelines, which can put a blanket ban over the use of implants. In absence of any concretized evidence against the harmful effects of silicone-gel implants, not much can be said about the toxicity effects of feeding on the infant. Would-be mothers need to consult their doctor to find out the suitability of implants. They may be advised about the potential harmful effects, though nothing has so far been pinned on implants, as regard its toxic effects. Mothers with implants with relatively trouble free pregnancy and lactation stages may not consider having implants any signs of danger.
